Atari will release Ghostbusters: The Video Game in 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film’s original release.  Set two years after Ghostbusters II, the game features a new story penned by the original Ghostbusters writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.  Atari will work with Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. and development studio Terminal Reality to release the game for multiple platforms.  As previously reported the original cast members of the Ghostbusters movies, including Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, will lend their voices and in-game likeness to the Ghostbusters: The Video Game.  The game also features performances by William Atherton, Annie Potts and Brian Doyle-Murray, among others.

In other Ghostbusters anniversary news, Sony Pictures Consumer Products has licensed the property for several new products, including toys, t-shirts, comic books, prop replicas and a theme park attraction.  The original Ghostbusters car (Ecto-1) will also make promotional appearances across the US and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II on Blu-ray.

Cynthia Turner’s Cynopsis – Cyn Kids 11/10/08

Okay, excuse me while I geek out here.  Considering I voted for Vigo the Carpathian (no, not really, but that was my “claim” during the election week), you’ll have to understand how much I love these damn movies (and “The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon – CLASSIC).

Being the warped tv/movie-obsessed kid I was, I loved Peter Venkman (more the cartoon character, but with mad respect for Billiam Murray).

I will definitely buy this game- I don’t care HOW BAD the reviews may get.  This ’00 culture has lost it’s appreciate of just entertainment SILLINESS (well, except for The Office and 30 rock, but those fluctuate between low & high brow comedy).  Ghostbusters was pure geek silliness with a side of smart ass.

And, being the BIGGER dork I am – How hilarious is it that they mention voice-over, ex-SNL-alum (who gets no love), actor (remember him as the Noah’s arcade guy in Wayne’s World, or the mayor in Groundhogs Day?) BRIAN DOYLE MURRAY (one of Billiam’s bros)!?

Where’s Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) – the lovable Accountant-turned-lawyer and love of Janine (Annie Potts) life?  And where’s Dana (aka Sigourny Weaver)?

Did you know (or at least remember) that Ghostbusters was nominated for TWO Oscars?  It won a Bafta, and was up for some Golden Globes too.

MAN, I love this movie.  And you know what – for as cheesy some tech-snobs might think the special effects are… I’D TAKE THESE SPECIAL EFFECTS OVER George Lucas’s CGI ANY DAY. Hehehehe.
