Today’s Gem: Avatar News

My day began on an up note with Nickelodeon’s event featuring director M. Night Shyamalan speaking about his forthcoming Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount live-action/CG feature film adaptation of the network’s animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.  Heralding the movie as the next Star Wars, the director explained he wanted to make the move because he loved the story and characters, and that “every human being in the world is going to flip out over this movie.”  He noted the script is done and they have story-boarded the movie twice over.  Unlike Shyamalan’s other movies this one will be for kids and families.  The movie is set for a July 2, 2010 release.

You’ll have to forgive me ahead of time.  I plan on geeking out about Avatar as it gears up.  Many have expressed extreme dismay at the “live action” version that M. Night is cooking up.  At this point – I don’t care.  I just want the story… and I want it to be DARN good.  Solid.  Characterization to the epic, endearing level.

None of this wishy washy characterization-sacrificed for CGI battles & too-thick story lines (aka, Star Wars EP I – III).  If we lose the plot & the heroes within a sea of CGI-mush, I’m going to rant.  A lot. 😉

Anyway, please share any news you may have about Avatar: The Last Airbender, the movie, if you hear it.  I will be eternally grateful.

p.s. Count down for the Twilight movie (which is starting to grow on me).
