Nick Kids Pick the Primaries

When all is said and done, who will be the Democratic and Republican US presidential candidates? If you ask kids, the answer is Senators Barack Obama and John McCain, according to the results of Nickelodeon’s first Kids’ Primary Election.  Voting took place January 13-18, following Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: The Kids’ Primary.  Nickelodeon received almost 80,000 votes in the kids’ primary election, with Obama receiving 46% of the Democratic vote and McCain taking 24% of the Republican vote.  The Kids’ Primary Election is part of Nickelodeon’s Kids Pick The President campaign (

Candidates aside– rock on, Nick kids.  I’d LOVE to hear some of the background info regarding their choices and thought processes.  Why?  Because I want to see if they spout parental-picked information, of if the have their own unique thought process. 

This would be a GREAT conversation for teachers in talking about primaries with their students.  Not to mention, kids LOVE talking about tv & shows & pop culture.  Work in the Nickelodeon Primaries, and a few more eyes might light up.
