Corus launches Internet safety gameplay

With online safety at the forefront of many parents’ minds and summer holidays providing more internet-perusing time for kids, Toronto, Canada-based Corus Entertainment’s YTV.com and non-profit org Kids Internet Safety Alliance have launched Surf Smart. The new online game aims to teach kids how to stay safe while surfing and entertain at the same time.

Built into Sitekick, YTV’s popular online community-based game, Surf Smart kids get rewarded with collectible virtual chips when they read tips about online security and answer questions. Player increase their
ranking as they collect more chips. The tips include navigating online privacy protection and how to guard against unwanted emails and instant messages.

Pretty sweet. Yay, Canada!  Thank you for taking the initiative to add games + social networking tipes = online safety excellence.  Let’s hope the wee ones don’t count it out for being schoolish (Oregon Trail was schoolish…. but it was NEVER lame).  Teachers!  Teachers– take advantage of this!  Yay!

Tralala, thank you YTV :)
