Call for a Blogger’s Code of Conduct

A blogger’s Code of Conduct? That’s a really great start in blog-education. I’m not going to post the whole article here– as it has MANY points of interest (and far too long/creepy to steal it all). However, here are the highlights (for more, check out the site):
- Take Responsibility not just for your own words, but for the comments you allow on your blog…
- Label your tolerance level for abusive comments…
- Consider eliminating anonymous comments…
- Ignore the trolls…
- Take the converasation offline, and talk directly, or find an intermediary who can do so…
- If you know someone who is behaving badly, tell them so…
- Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person…
HOWEVER!! As someone who posts information regarding kids/tweens/teens… I tend to have a lot of young surfers (you have NO idea how many hits I get from kids googling “club penguin cheats” etc), I would propose that perhaps there is an EIGHTH amendment:
8. Check all links left by post-commenters. If you are uncomfortable having a link on your blog that leads to inappropriate content or blogs created by youth (you don’t want to lead the wicked to their vice) delete the URLs they left behind.
Same goes with language. I’ve already editted quite a few poorly spelled curse words. And we know how I feel about editting
